Welcome to Crafty Poulette !
I’m Alex, a trilingual thirty-something storyteller and crafts-person currently living in Monza, close to Milan in Italy.
I started this blog to stay sane during 2020 lockdowns while I was living in a very small apartment in Paris, after quitting my job. During the past months, I dedicated most of my time to trying to move out of said little flat (and find a job!), all the while inventing stories or challenging myself to learn how to sew and play the guitar-lele (a mix between a ukulele and a guitar).
The result?
After years of living, studying and working in France and The Netherlands, I landed back in Italy where I grew up (and eventually found a job!).
I also accumulated an infinite amount of half baked attempts at writing THE book and a hefty stash of materials, some of which I’m still too scared to approach. And as for music, I still have no idea how to do the correct version of Greensleeves on my guitar-lele.
On the bright side, I learnt how to sew and got through seven complete projects (Du fil à retordre), mainly thanks to Tilly and the Buttons’ wonderful books and precious tips from my number one reader (my Mum). I also consistently wrote a story a month for five months thanks to challenging myself to follow Neil Gaiman’s prompts.
For this 2021 version of Crafty Poulette I am excited to start new projects with different materials and mediums and to share new stories from this new chapter of my life!
PS. Poulette is the nickname my better half has given me that translates into ‘my little chicken’ 🙂
Enjoy!
